The renowned linguist and rhetorician John Swales died in 2025 and in his honour we would like to propose a special issue of the journal Text and Talk. We invite abstracts of 400-500 words on any aspect of Linguistics related to Swales' work, with topics including but not limited to:
* Genre (move) analysis, including developments in the model since its inception, and using moves to investigate novel genres.
* The Michigan corpora.
* The relationship between Swales and other approaches to language.
* Swales and the analysis of university language / discourse communities.
* Swales and English for Academic Purposes.
Your abstract should make explicit the link to John Swales' legacy.
Key dates:
* Deadline for abstracts: 1 May 2026
* Notification of acceptance: June 2026
* Deadline for papers: 5 January 2027
* Deadline for revised papers after review: 1 June 2027
* Publication: September 2027
