ARR JOB ADVERTISEMENT: WORKFLOW MANAGER
The Association for Computational Linguistics Rolling Review (ARR) seeks an additional workflow manager to support the regular operations of ARR's reviewing cycles, which take place every two months. This position sits at the heart of the peer-review infrastructure used by major ACL conferences, processing thousands of submissions and coordinating several thousand reviewers, area chairs, and senior area chairs every two months. The goal of this role is to support and extend ARR's use of OpenReview and its related internal tools.
POSITION SUMMARY
The workflow manager will:
* Lead the implementation of the data manipulation on top of OpenReview required for the ARR peer-review process, including submission intake, reciprocal reviewing, reviewer, area-chair, and senior-area-chair assignments, availability and load tracking, withdrawal and desk-rejection handling, resubmission detection, bulk communication, and related workflows. * Maintain and extend ARR's internal Python tooling for bulk data reads and mutations. * Collaborate with the ARR team, including the Editors-in-Chief, CTOs, current workflow manager, and technical support team, to identify, design, and implement software solutions that streamline the ARR review process. * Work closely with the ARR team and conference program chairs to provide a smooth transition between the reviewing and commitment stages. * Collaborate with the ARR team and support the implementation of data-driven approaches to improve the ARR review process. * Support the creation of reports and statistics about the review process for the ARR team and conference program chairs throughout each cycle. * Provide troubleshooting and technical support regarding the OpenReview infrastructure to the ARR team, often on short turnaround while a cycle is active.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Candidates are required to have:
* Solid software-engineering training or equivalent practical experience. * Experience integrating solutions into legacy software and building on third-party platforms. * Solid programming skills in Python, particularly for data handling with pandas, CSV, and JSON and for writing command-line tools that use REST APIs. * Working knowledge of JavaScript and HTML for OpenReview process functions and interface customization. * Strong organizational and time-management skills and the ability to work according to a fixed cycle calendar with hard deadlines. * Demonstrated attention to detail, since errors may be visible to the entire ACL community and can be difficult to reverse. * Strong and responsive communication skills. * Knowledge of and experience with software version-control systems.
The work is performed remotely. Interaction with the ARR team and conference program chairs will take place through online meetings and asynchronous communication.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The workflow manager works under the direct supervision of the ARR Editors-in-Chief and collaborates closely with the ARR CTOs, current workflow manager, technical support team, and conference program chairs.
The desired start date is October 1, 2026.
The workload varies throughout the reviewing cycles but averages approximately 20 hours per week. Because ARR follows a fixed cycle calendar, some periods have hard deadlines and require prompt communication.
The annual compensation range is USD 30,000-40,000.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the country from which they will perform the role.
HOW TO APPLY
To apply, submit:
* A cover letter that includes your country of residence, current time zone, and typical working hours in that time zone. * A CV or résumé. * Names and contact information for three professional references.
