The workshop aims to bring together researchers from diverse areas, including industry partners, MT practitioners, and language professionals. GITT aims to encourage multidisciplinary research that develops and interrogates both solutions and challenges for addressing bias and promoting gender inclusivity in MT and translation tools, including LLMs applications for the translation task. Topics GITT invites technical as well as non-technical submissions, which consist of experimental, theoretical or methodological contributions. We explicitly welcome interdisciplinary submissions and submissions that focus on innovative, non-binary linguistic strategies and/or with sociolinguistically-informed perspectives. Dear colleagues, You are invited to participate in ArAIEval Shared Task at the ArabicNLP 2024: (i) detection of propagandistic textual spans with persuasion techniques identification (unimodal) on Arabic news articles and tweets. (ii) distinguishing between propagandistic and non-propagandistic memes (multimodal) in Arabic. The shared task will be held alongside the Second Arabic Natural Language Processing Conference (ArabicNLP 2024), co-located with the ACL2024 Conference in Bangkok, Thailand (11-16 Aug, 2024). Tasks Task 1: Unimodal (Text) Propagandistic Technique Detection: The task is to detect the propaganda techniques used in a text and identify the exact span(s) in which each propaganda technique appears. You will be given text snippets from news paragraphs or tweets (multigenre). This is a sequence tagging task. Project description The project Modeling context for the analysis of language variation and change will use computational approaches to mode linguistic and extra-linguistic context for the analysis of language variation and change. Context has a major impact on how we process language. However, the notion of context is very broad ranging from broadly conceived pragmatic conditions, i.e. the extra-linguistic context (e.g. socio-cultural factors, genres, time), to the relationship among linguistic elements that can substitute for each other in a given context, i.e. the paradigmatic context, up to the local linguistic context of linguistic elements, i.e. the syntagmatic context. While studies on language variation and change do encompass the notion of context, the coverage of contextual factors is often relatively limited. This project will apply and further develop computational modeling techniques to integrate contextual factors among the types of context described above to arrive at more comprehensive accounts of effects of contextual factors on language variation and change. Eligibility: This is important! The vacancy is open to applicants of all nationalities who comply with the mobility requirement and the degree requirement: * applicants must not have resided in the country of the CASCADE university that will host them (university of the main supervisor, Germany in this case) for more than 12 months in the 36 months preceding appointment * applicants must not hold a doctoral degree in any other field or have failed a corresponding doctoral examination at another higher education institution. Project description The project Diachronic development of text types in the English Language will use computational approaches to model temporal dynamics of textual data (corpus-based and novel probabilistic measures) for the analysis of the development of text types in English. From the 15th century onward, increased use of the vernacular and perceived syntactic and lexical gaps (compared with Latin) prompted linguistic innovation in English, concurrent with the progressive conventionalization of text types. Existing variation was made functional and new distinctions were either borrowed or invented (e.g. transfer of features from medicine to cooking recipes). Applying corpus-based and novel probabilistic measures to investigate diachronic change and with support from Text+ and IDeaL, the PhD candidate will be able to: 1) determine the linguistic features of different text types; 2) determine how these features change over time; 3) assess the overlap of different text types and the possible mutual influence of text types; 4) develop a computational workflow to support the above objectives which is made publicly available (e.g. on github). Job requirements and responsibilities * Participation in the general training programme of the doctoral network (kick-off, monthly online research meetings, annual workshops and schools, and final conference) * Collaboration with a multidisciplinary research group focused on the intersection of Computational Linguistics, Linguistics, and Digital Humanities. * Creation of a typology of diachronic text types. * Large-scale analysis of the evolution of meaning across text types. * Development of a computationally supported methodology for diachronic text typology. * Participation in joint publications and engagement in academic service. * The successful candidate will be expected to participate in a series of international conferences and workshops, as well as undertake secondments in Germany and abroad. *** Last Call for Research Projects Exhibition *** 36th International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE'24) June 3-7, 2024, 5* St. Raphael Resort and Marina, Limassol, Cyprus https://cyprusconferences.org/caise2024/ (*** Submission Deadline: 8th April, 2024 AoE ***) CAiSE 2024 features a Research Project Exhibition (RPE@CAiSE'24) where researchers and practitioners can present their ongoing research projects (e.g., Horizon or ERC projects, national grants) in the context of Information Systems Engineering. The main objective of this call is to serve as a forum where presenters can disseminate the intermediate results of their projects or get feedback about research project proposals being developed. The exhibition will also provide a warm environment to find potential research partners, foster existing relationships, and discuss research ideas. To participate in the RPE@CAiSE'24, the authors should submit a short paper (5-8 pages) showcasing the project, including the participants, the main objectives of the project and relevant results obtained so far (or expected results in the case of project proposals). Each submission will be peer-reviewed on the relevance of the submitted paper in the context of CAiSE 2024. If the paper is accepted, the authors will be invited to register for the conference to present their work at the Research Projects Exhibition session at CAiSE 2024. The accepted contributions will be proposed for publication by CEUR proceedings using the 1-column CEUR-ART style. In addition, the authors of the most influential project presented at the RPE@CAiSE'24 will receive an award distinguishing their contribution as the "Most Influential Project of the Research Project Exhibition @CAiSE'24". RESEARCH PROJECTS REQUIREMENTS For the Research Projects Exhibition, we solicit submissions of projects related to the topics of CAiSE that meet the following criteria: • Projects funded by the European Union, by national or local funding organisations, or even by individual universities and industries. • Projects focused on fundamental research, applied research or more industry-oriented. • Research projects carried out by an international consortium of partners or by a national research team. • Research statements for future projects concerning the Information Systems Engineering community. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES Papers should be submitted via Easychair (https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=caise2024) by selecting the "Research Projects Exhibition". Each submission of a research project should include: • The project's full name, acronym, duration (from-to), participants, funding agency and URL. • Names of presenter(s) and main contributors. • Abstract and keywords. • Summary of project objectives and expected tangible outputs. • The relevance of the project (or one of its work packages) to the topics of the International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering. • If the project is ongoing: summary of current status and intermediate results. All submissions should be 5 to 8 pages long and be formatted as a 1-column CEUR-ART style (templates available at https://ceur-ws.org/Vol-XXX/). An intention to submit should be performed one week before the deadline, including the full name of the project, the authors' name and the abstract. Each submission will be reviewed by at least two members of the Program Committee. In case of disagreement, a third member of the Program Committee will review the submission. The Program Committee will comprise international researchers with expertise in the field. ATTENDANCE AND PRESENTATION During the Research Projects Exhibition session, the authors of accepted contributions will present the research project. Details about the format of the session and instructions to prepare the presentation will be given to authors after the acceptance notification. At least one author of each submission accepted for the Research Projects Exhibition must register and attend the conference to present the work. The author needs a full registration to present the research project.
