2nd Call for Shared Task Participation on Visually Grounded Story Generation Introducing the Visually Grounded Story Generation (VGSG <https://vgsg2024.github.io/>) Challenge, a shared task at the Generation Challenges workshop at INLG 2024 <https://inlg2024.github.io/>in Tokyo, Japan! This task invites enthusiasts in vision-and-language integration to push the boundaries of vision-based story generation. This shared task aims to generate stories grounded on a sequence of images. Participants will explore the intricate relations between visual prompts and textual stories, fostering innovations in techniques for coherent, visually grounded story generation. This task is particularly challenging because: 1) the output story should be a narratively coherent text with multiple sentences, and 2) the protagonists in the generated stories need to be grounded in the images. In addition, we also elicit submissions to fine-tune existing multimodal models efficiently, which is exciting for both industry and academics. Major progress has been made by the industry in vision-based text generation in the last few years. While generating descriptions from images or videos is widely available, grounded story generation is not evaluated with a benchmark. Investigating vision-based story generation requires several capabilities including commonsense reasoning and content planning. We're calling for submissions that demonstrate novel approaches to generating narratives that are not only coherent but also visually grounded. We particularly welcome participants to explore the following aspects of multimodal story generation: * Retrieval Augmented Generation * Active Learning or Curriculum Learning * Human-in-the-loop Generation * Psycholinguistics-Driven Methods * Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning * Self-Supervised Learning * Reinforcement Learning * Generative Adversarial Network and Diffusion Models Both automatic and human evaluations will be used. Participants can submit a 4-page report, which will be peer-reviewed and included in the INLG 2024 proceedings if accepted. Participants will present their systems in a poster session at the Generation Challenges workshop. Whether it's through advanced computational models, innovative narrative techniques, or new data processing methods, your contribution can help illuminate the paths toward more intuitive, human-like story generation from visual inputs. BRIEF DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES Ontology matching is a key interoperability enabler for the Semantic Web, as well as a useful technique in some classical data integration tasks dealing with the semantic heterogeneity problem. It takes ontologies as input and determines as output an alignment, that is, a set of correspondences between the semantically related entities of those ontologies. These correspondences can be used for various tasks, such as ontology merging, data interlinking, query answering or navigation over knowledge graphs. Thus, matching ontologies enables the knowledge and data expressed with the matched ontologies to interoperate. The workshop has three goals: 1. To bring together leaders from academia, industry and user institutions to assess how academic advances are addressing real-world requirements. The workshop will strive to improve academic awareness of industrial and final user needs, and therefore, direct research towards those needs. Simultaneously, the workshop will serve to inform industry and user representatives about existing research efforts that may meet their requirements. The workshop will also investigate how the ontology matching technology is going to evolve, especially with respect to data interlinking, knowledge graph and web table matching tasks. 2. Papers can include unlimited pages of references and an unlimited appendix. Authors must follow the two-column format of *ACL conferences. COLING 2025 adopts the ACL Ethics Policy. Submissions will only be accepted in PDF format, with optional supplementary materials such as software and data. Deviations from the provided templates will result in rejection without review. COLING 2025 will allow two routes for paper submission: Direct submission: Papers submitted via this route will undergo a normal review process. Papers will be assigned to three reviewers and authors will have the opportunity to provide a short rebuttal to clarify any misunderstandings. ARR papers: Papers which have already been reviewed through the ACL Rolling Review (ARR) system can be committed to COLING 2025. These papers will not be re-reviewed. Reviewers will not see authors, authors will not see reviewers. Reviews and submissions will not be made publicly visible. Anonymity Period COLING 2025 will follow the ACL Anonymity Policy. As a result, no anonymity period will be required, although authors are still cautioned against extensive advertising. The submissions themselves must still be fully anonymized. Multiple Submission Policy Papers which are submitted to COLING 2025 cannot be under review for other conferences or journals at the same time. The subject matter is drawn from the Broadcast News domain as well as fictional texts, delivering a multi-purpose, contemporary speech dataset. This corpus consists in 34000 read sentences, 42 hours of audio recorded under 48kHz, 16bit Linear PCM WAV format, for ca. 12.5 Gigabytes. *Slovak Autistic and Non-Autistic Child Speech Corpus (SANACS)* <https://catalog.elra.info/en-us/repository/browse/ELRA-S0491/> ISLRN: *016-848-885-785-1* <http://www.islrn.org/resources/016-848-885-785-1> SANACS Corpus contains 67 recorded sessions of interactions between two native Slovak speakers. In 37 sessions an autistic child interacts with a neurotypical adult experimenter, and in 30 control sessions a neurotypical child interacts with the same neurotypical adult experimenter. The children were 6-12 years old (mean 9.2). In all sessions, the two participants are involved in a collaborative, task-oriented communication based on the Maps Task. Most tasks consist of six trials: a practice and two real trials where the experimenter is the describer and the child the follower, and then one practice and two real trials when the roles switched and the child is the describer and the experimenter is the follower. The AMTA 2024 submission deadline has been extended until Friday, 14 June 2024! This includes submissions for papers, presentations, workshops, tutorials, and best thesis award. To ensure that AMTA 2024, the premier conference on Machine Translation and AI for cross-lingual use-cases, has the best possible line-up of papers and presentations, the organizing committee is extending the submission deadline until Friday, 14 June 2024 (midnight, anywhere on Earth). The 4th International Conference on Natural Language Processing for Digital Humanities will co-locate with EMNLP in Miami, USA! The proceedings will be published in the ACL anthology. The event will take place on November 15-16 2024. https://www.nlp4dh.com/nlp4dh-2024 Submission deadline: September 1, 2024 The focus of NLP4DH is on applying natural language processing techniques to digital humanities research. The topics can be anything of digital humanities interest with a natural language processing or generation aspect. A list of suitable NLP4DH topics include but are not limited to: -Text analysis and processing related to humanities using computational methods -Dataset creation and curation for NLP (e.g. digitization, digitalization, datafication, and data preservation). -Research on cultural heritage collections such as national archives and libraries using NLP -NLP for error detection, correction, normalization and denoising data -Generation and analysis of literary works such as poetry and novels -Analysis and detection of text genres Short papers can be up to 4 pages in length Short papers can report on work in progress or a more targeted contribution such as software or partial results. Long papers can be up to 8 pages in length. Long papers should report on previously unpublished, completed, original work. Lightning talks can be submitted as 750-word abstracts. Lightning talks are suited for discussing ideas or presenting work in progress. Lightning talks will be published in lightning proceedings on Zenodo. Accepted papers (short and long) will be published in the proceedings that will appear in the ACL Anthology. Accepted papers will also be given an additional page to address the reviewers’ comments. The length of a camera ready submission can then be 5 pages for a short paper and 9 for a long paper with an unlimited number of pages for references. *DEADLINE EXTENDED TO JUNE 14* Fancy a trip to Amsterdam? The 12th edition of our PhD Symposium on Future Directions in Information Access (FDIA 2024, https://2024.essir.eu/fdia-2024), organised by the BCS Information Retrieval Specialist Group, will be held in conjunction with the 15th European Summer School on Information Retrieval (ESSIR 2024, https://2024.essir.eu/, 1-5 July 2024). We cordially invite Masters and doctoral (PhD) students as well as early-stage researchers to submit a paper on their research topic to the symposium. You’ll learn a lot about Information Retrieval while at the school and get great feedback on your topic, meet lots of other students, and hear inspiring talks. The FDIA Symposium provides an excellent opportunity for students to give pointers to their work and obtain experience in presenting and communicating their research. FDIA 2024 is the next chapter in a long list of previous events. Previous symposiums were held in Vienna, Austria (with ESSIR 2023), Lisbon, Portugal (with ESSIR 2022), Milan, Italy in 2019 (with ESSIR 2019), Tianjin, China in 2018 (with ICTIR 2018), Barcelona, Spain in 2017 (with ESSIR 2017); Thessaloniki, Greece in 2015 (with ESSIR 2015); Granada, Spain in 2013 (with ESSIR 2013); Koblenz, Germany in 2011 (with ESSIR 2011), Padova, Italy in 2009 (with ESSIR 2009); London, England in 2008, and Glasgow, Scotland in 2007 (with ESSIR 2007). Why information access, because it captures the broader ideas of information retrieval, storage, and management to include interaction and usage. We especially encourage submissions on formative research ideas which present a summary of their doctoral work, initial empirical findings/pilot studies, explore conceptual and/or theoretical models, and/or describe current challenges and opportunities. Submissions focusing on new directions and emerging work in Information Access/Retrieval which create discussion and provoke a reaction are strongly encouraged.
