The Leibniz Institute for the German Language (IDS) in Mannheim, founded in 1964, is the leading international scientific centre for the documentation and research of the German language and its use in the present and recent history. The IDS has an annual budget of around 13.6 million Euro and currently employs 220 staff. Together with 96 other non-university research and infrastructure institutions, it belongs to the Leibniz Association. The IDS has a vacancy for the following full-time (39.5 hours per week) or part-time (at least 65%) position in the Department of Digital Linguistics:
Research Associate Research Software Engineer (RSE): Development & Operation in the field of corpus linguistics / text mining (Reference number 19/2022)
The employment relationship is limited to up to 2 years, depending on personal requirements. Remuneration is dependent on your qualifications and experience up to pay group 13 TV-L.
The position is located in the program area of corpus linguistics, which, among other things, develops the German Reference Corpus (DeReKo), an electronic research data basis for German linguistics, and the methods and research tools necessary for its linguistic use.
Your area of responsibility essentially includes * Further development and operation of research software for the linguistic analysis of very large text corpora * Collaboration on scientific publications * Development of software tests for scientific quality management * Development and operation of DevOps workflows * Collaboration in the administration and maintenance of CentOS/Rocky Linux servers (especially Apache HTTP Server, Gerrit Code Review, systemd) * Continuous security and dependency updates Requirements * A completed university degree or doctorate in linguistics, computational linguistics, digital humanities or a comparable degree * Experience in research software development and big data analysis and processing * Programming experience, ideally with Java, C and Perl * Experience in Unix system administration * Experience with the version management system git * Very good language skills in German or English Knowledge in several of the following areas is also desirable: * Knowledge of IT security, AAI, OAuth * Knowledge in the area of DevOps * Experience with CI workflows (github or gitlab) * Experience in the area of container virtualization (Docker, Podman, …) We offerWorking in a committed FOSS-RSE team and the opportunity to productively use the latest and innovative RSE technologies.
