We have a fully funded PhD position available on the intersection of NLP and applied linguistics, starting in January 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. This is a position at the Amsterdam Center for Language and Communication (ACLC)https://aclc.uva.nl/ of the University of Amsterdam. It is part of our NRO-funded project on language-related degree-awarding gaps in Dutch higher educationhttps://www.nro.nl/onderzoeksprojecten/watching-our-language-curriculum-innovations-for-language-equity-and-academic-success.
The succesful candidate will develop LLM-based scoring metrics of text quality for Dutch and English, among other ideas. The candidate will be supervised by Jelke Bloemhttps://www.uva.nl/profiel/b/l/j.bloem/j.bloem.html and Caitlin Meyerhttps://www.uva.nl/profiel/m/e/c.m.meyer/c.m.meyer.html. We welcome applications from candidates with a NLP/AI background and an interest in language and higher education. We do ask for B1-level Dutch skills for this position.
Closing date: Oct 3, 2025. The position is expected to start in January 2026.
