The Leibniz Institute for the German Language (IDS) in Mannheim, founded in 1964, is the leading international scientific centre for the documentation and research of the German language and its present use and recent history. The IDS has an annual budget of around 13.6 million Euro and currently has 220 employees. Together with 96 other non- university research and infrastructure institutions, it belongs to the Leibniz Association. Corpus linguistics at the Leibniz Institute for the German Language is one of the pioneers of this sub-discipline of linguistics, both nationally and internationally.
For the project Methods of corpus analysis we are looking for a: Corpus Linguist(Reference number 02/2023)
from 1 July 2023 or later,
for the Corpus Linguistics Programme Area in the Department of Digital Linguistics.
The employment relationship is initially limited to 2 years. A permanent cooperation is intended. In principle, the position can be made permanent after the successful completion of a structured procedure. The remuneration is in accordance with the remuneration group TV-L E13.
Your area of responsibility essentially includes: * Development of methodologies for gaining linguistic insights from very large corpora * Development of language models and tools for analysis and visualization * Independent implementation and collaboration in corpus linguistic studies * Collaboration in the expansion of the German Reference Corpus * Independent creation of and collaboration on scientific publications * Active participation in scientific conferences * Participation in the further development of the field of corpus linguistics at IDS * Participation in interdepartmental scientific tasks and activities Requirements: * a university degree with a doctorate in linguistics, computational linguistics, mathematics, computer science, digital humanities or a comparable degree programme * Experience in dealing with large corpora * Programming experience * Proficiency in Unix and version control tools * Very good language skills in German and English (each at least B2) We offer:Working in the programme area of corpus linguistics at the IDS, together with a committed team and in the context of many national and international collaborations, allows new methods and technologies to be tested and productively used on the German reference corpus DeReKo, one of the world's largest linguistic corpora.
