The Laboratory on Accessible Technologies "S. Polin" at the University of Turin, Italy (http://www.integr-abile.unito.it/en/) offers a 1-year postdoc/research-grant position in the context of the project NovaGraphS (Non-Visual Access to Graphical Structures, http://www.integr-abile.unito.it/en/progetto-novagraphs/).
The project concerns the issue of accessing scientific contents of graphical structures (e.g, tables, trees, graphs) for visually impaired people. The goal is to use together WEB and NLP/NLG technologies for building a browser plugin that supports a speech-based accessible representation of graphical structures. The main idea is to build a software that (1) starts from a syntactic/semantic representation of the graphical structure (e.g. LaTeX), (2) converts it into SVG (that is readable by a browser), and (3) reads and navigates the obtained SVG using speech dialogue.
The research team includes Alessandro Mazzei (PI, from Computer Science Department), together with all the participants to the project.
The yearly salary for this position is 19,367 EURO (gross), corresponding to a net monthly salary 1,425 EURO (12 times a year).
