Dear colleagues,

In September 2022, we shared the result of a collaborative project that aims to develop a Core Metadata Schema for Learner Corpora with LCR2022 participants. The focus is on core variables that are (or should be) common to all learner corpora. We are therefore not interested in metadata that would be required to describe specific types of learner corpora only.

Acceptance from the research community has been part of the workflow since the beginning of the project and we therefore collected feedback on the schema in Autumn 2022. We received many valuable comments and spent several months revising our first proposal.

We are now requesting feedback on the second version of the Core Metadata Schema for Learner Corpora which has been extensively revised based on the feedback received.

The second version is available at: https://tinyurl.com/L2metadataV2

We will be collecting feedback on the metadata schema until the end of November. The online feedback form is available at: https://tinyurl.com/LCRmetafeedback

For more information on the Core Metadata Schema, please check https://tinyurl.com/EUROSLA

We’d like to thank all the colleagues who provided feedback (at LCR2022, EUROSLA2023, by email or via the online form). We also thank them for their appreciation and enthusiasm for our work! We’d also like to encourage more colleagues (and particularly those of you who have experience in learner corpus compilation) to provide feedback! We need help in finalizing the second version of the Core Metadata Schema to make sure that it can be applied in all learner compilation contexts. In short, we need you to make sure the schema meets the needs of the LCR community at large.

With very best wishes,

Magali Paquot (also on behalf of Alexander König, Jennifer-Carmen Frey, and Egon W. Stemle)
