Dear colleagues, We are pleased to announce that the Learner Corpus Research Graduate Conference 2025, organized under the aegis of the Learner Corpus Association, will be hosted by the Chair of English and Digital Linguistics, Chemnitz University of Technology, and will take place virtually on 22-23-24 October 2025. The main aim of the conference, as in the previous editions, is to offer a space for MA and PhD students as well as researchers who have earned their doctoral degree in the last two years prior to the conference to discuss their (ongoing) projects. Researchers who already hold a doctoral degree are welcome and strongly encouraged to attend as panelists, mentors or non-presenting delegates, helping to ensure a fruitful academic dialogue and to foster the careers of graduate students and recent graduates within the field of Learner Corpus Research. The central theme of this year’s conference is “The Pattern Beneath”. This theme celebrates the unique role of learner corpus research in uncovering the underlying structures and patterns of learner language through LCR. It emphasizes the field’s potential to provide insights into second language acquisition, linguistic development, and the intricacies of language use in educational contexts. Call for Papers: The 19th Linguistic Annotation Workshop (LAW-XIX) We invite submissions for LAW-XIX, co-located with ACL 2025 in Vienna, Austria, in July/Aug 2025. The LAW-XIX will provide a forum for presentation and discussion of innovative research on all aspects of linguistic annotation, including creation/evaluation of annotation schemes, methods for automatic and manual annotation, use and evaluation of annotation software and frameworks, representation of linguistic data and annotations, semi-supervised “human in the loop” methods of annotation, crowd-sourcing approaches, and more. Special Theme The special theme of LAW-XIX is "*Subjectivity and variation in linguistic annotations*". In addition to LAW's general topics, we specifically invite submissions on: * Subjectivity and human label variation in linguistic annotations * Learning from annotation disagreements * Detecting annotation noise in human label variation * Accounting for subjectivity in label aggregation * Ways to aggregate multiple annotators' labels beyond majority vote * Any other topics related to the special theme. The workshop aims to bring together researchers from diverse areas, including industry partners, MT practitioners, and language professionals. GITT aims to encourage multidisciplinary research that develops and interrogates both solutions and challenges for addressing bias and promoting gender inclusivity in MT and translation tools, including LMs applications for the translation task. **Topics** GITT invites technical as well as non-technical submissions, which consist of experimental, theoretical or methodological contributions. We explicitly welcome interdisciplinary submissions and submissions that focus on innovative, non-binary linguistic strategies and/or with sociolinguistically-informed perspectives. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to: - Models or methods for assessing and mitigating gender bias - New resources for inclusive language and gender translation (e.g., datasets, translation memories, dictionaries) - Social, cross-lingual, and ethical implications of gender bias - Qualitative and quantitative analyses on the potential limits of current approaches to gender bias in translation and MT, error taxonomies as well as best practices and guidelines - User-centric case studies on the impact of biased language and/or mitigating approaches which can include translators, post-editors, or monolingual MT users GITT is also open to other non-listed topics aligned with the scope of the workshop and works focusing on non-textual modalities (e.g., audiovisual translation) **Submission** We welcome four types of submissions, two archival and two non-archival. ArchEHR-QA 2025 (pronounced "Archer"): BioNLP @ACL 2025 Shared Task on Grounded Question Answering (QA) from Electronic Health Records (EHRs) Website: https://archehr-qa.github.io/ Responding to patients’ inbox messages through patient portals is one of the main contributors to increasing clinician burden. To this end, automatically generating answers to questions from patients considering their medical records is important. The objective of this shared task is to automatically answer patients’ questions given important clinical evidence from their electronic health records (EHRs). Task Overview We propose the task of automatically generating answers to patients’ health-related questions that are grounded in the evidence from patients’ clinical notes. The dataset will consist of hand-curated realistic patient questions (submitted through a patient portal) and their corresponding clinician-rewritten versions (crafted to assist in formulating their responses). The task is to construct coherent answers or responses to input questions that must use and be grounded in the provided clinical note excerpts. Is there any established xml or other markup language for novels and short stories? I'm particularly interested in marking up dialogue with the name of the character who is speaking, and then in tools that allow extracting the dialogue of each character (e.g. to analyse and contrast the vocabulary each uses). If so, following on from that, are there open-source ML models that try to identify the speaker to add this markup, and existing training data? Thanks, Darren

Second Workshop on Patient-Oriented Language Processing (CL4Health) @ NAACL 2025 https://bionlp.nlm.nih.gov/cl4health2025/ Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA SCOPE CL4Health fills the gap among the different biomedical language processing workshops by providing a general venue for a broad spectrum of patient-oriented language processing research. The second workshop on patient-oriented language processing follows the successful inaugural CL4Health workshop (co-located with LREC-COLING 2024), which clearly demonstrated the need for a computational linguistics venue that focuses on language related to health of the public. CL4Health is concerned with the resources, computational approaches, and behavioral and socio-economic aspects of the public interactions with digital resources in search of health-related information that satisfies their information needs and guides their actions. The workshop invites papers concerning all areas of language processing focused on patients' health and health-related issues concerning the public. The issues include, but are not limited to accessibility and trustworthiness of health information provided to the public; explainable and evidence-supported answers to consumer-health questions; accurate summarization of patients' health records at their health-literacy level; understanding patients' non-informational needs through their language, and accurate and accessible interpretations of biomedical research. The topics of interest for the workshop include but are not limited to the following: * Health-related information needs and online behaviors of the public; * Quality assurance and ethics considerations in language technologies and approaches applied to text and other modalities for public consumption; * Summarization of data from electronic health records for patients; * Detection of misinformation in consumer health-related resources and mitigation of potential harms; * Consumer health question answering (Community Question Answering)(CQA); * Biomedical text simplification/adaptation; * Dialogue systems to support patients' interactions with clinicians, healthcare systems, and online resources; * Linguistic resources, data and tools for language technologies focusing on consumer health; * Infrastructures and pre-trained language models for consumer health SHARED TASK Perspective-aware Healthcare Answer Summarization (PerAnsSumm) will be co-located with the workshop. In community / consumer health question answering, several aspects, such as question understanding and answer generation, have been studied for over a decade. A new and important question posed by this task is the different perspectives provided in the answers to questions posted to online forums. The responses to the questions offer different answer perspectives, e.g., personal experiences, factual information, and suggestions. Traditionally, the CQA answer summarization task has focused on a single best-voted answer as a reference summary. A single answer does not capture all the perspectives. Moreover, a structured presentation of the information in the form of perspective-specific summaries may be more useful for the end-users. To address these gaps, this challenge introduces a novel perspective-specific answer summarization task within a CQA setup. The task will use the Perspective-aware healthcare Answer SuMmarizAtion (PUMA) dataset, a corpus of medical question-answer pairs created by the task organizers. The PUMA dataset consists of 3,167 CQA threads with approximately 10K answers filtered from the Yahoo! L6 corpus. Each answer in PUMA is annotated with five perspective spans: ‘cause’, ‘suggestion’, ‘experience’, ‘question’, and ‘information’. Short papers may consist of up to four (4) pages of content, plus unlimited references. Upon acceptance, short papers will still be given up to five (5) content pages in the proceedings. We also ask authors to include a limitation section and broader impact statement, following guidelines from the main conference. We will be using OpenReview for submissions: https://openreview.net/group?id=aclweb.org/NAACL/2025/Workshop/PrivateNLP Please note OpenReview's moderation policy for newly created profiles: * New profiles created without an institutional email will go through a moderation process that can take up to two weeks. * New profiles created with an institutional email will be activated automatically. No anonymity period will be required for papers submitted to the workshop, per the latest updates to the ACL anonymity policy. However, submissions must still remain fully anonymized. Fast-Track Submission If your paper has been reviewed by ACL, EMNLP, EACL, or ARR and the average rating is higher than 2.5 (either average soundness or excitement score), the paper is qualified to be submitted to the fast-track. In the appendix, please include the reviews and a short statement discussing what parts of the paper have been revised. Dual Submission Policy In addition to previously unpublished work, we invite papers on relevant topics which have been submitted to alternative venues (such as other NLP or ML conferences). Please follow the double-submission policy from ACL. Accepted cross-submissions will be presented as posters, with an indication of the original venue. Selection of cross-submissions will be determined solely by the organizing committee. Non-Archival Option There are no formatting or page restrictions for non-archival submissions. The accepted papers to the non-archival track will be displayed on the workshop website, but will NOT be included in the workshop proceedings or otherwise archived.
