Best, Pascal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3-year PhD position in Computational Models of Semantic Memory and its Acquisition (Inria and University of Lille, France) We invite applications for a 3-year PhD position at the University of Lille in the context of the recently funded research project "COMANCHE" (Computational Models of Lexical Meaning and Change). The position is funded by Inria, the French national research institute in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics. COMANCHE proposes to transfer and adapt neural word embeddings algorithms to model the acquisition and evolution of word meaning, by comparing them with linguistic theories on language acquisition and language evolution. At the intersection between Natural Language Processing, psycholinguistics and historical linguistics, this project intends to validate or revise some of these theories, while also developing computational models that are less data hungry and computationally intensive as they exploit new inductive biases inspired by these disciplines. The first strand of the project, on which the successful candidate will work, focuses on the development of computational models of semantic memory and its acquisition. Two main research directions will be pursued. On the one hand, we will compare the structural properties associated to different semantic spaces derived from word embedding algorithms to those found in human semantic memory as reflected in behavioral data (such as typicality norms) as well as brain imaging data. The latter data will then used as additional supervision to inject more hierarchical structure into the learned semantic spaces. One the other hand, we intend to experiment with training regimes for word embedding algorithms that are closer to those of humans when they acquire language, controlling the quantity as well as the linguistic complexity of the inputs fed to the learning algorithms through the use of longitudinal and child directed speech corpora (e.g., CHILDES, Colaje). In both cases, both English and French data will be considered. The successful candidate holds a Master's degree in computational linguistics or computer science or cognitive science and has prior experience in word embedding models. Furthermore, the candidate will provide strong programming skills, expertise in machine learning approaches and is eager to work across languages. Best, Pascal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We invite applications for a 3-year PhD position co-funded by Inria, the French national research institute in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics, and LexisNexis France, leader of legal information in France and subsidiary of the RELX Group. The overall objective of this project is to develop an automated system for detecting argumentation structures in French legal decisions, using recent machine learning-based approaches (i.e. deep learning approaches). In the general case, these structures take the form of a directed labeled graph, whose nodes are the elements of the text (propositions or groups of propositions, not necessarily contiguous) which serve as components of the argument, and edges are relations that signal the argumentative connection between them (e.g., support, offensive). By revealing the argumentation structure behind legal decisions, such a system will provide a crucial milestone towards their detailed understanding, their use by legal professionals, and above all contributes to greater transparency of justice. The main challenges and milestones of this project start with the creation and release of a large-scale dataset of French legal decisions annotated with argumentation structures. To minimize the manual annotation effort, we will resort to semi-supervised and transfer learning techniques to leverage existing argument mining corpora, such as the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) corpus, as well as annotations already started by LexisNexis. Another promising research direction, which is likely to improve over state-of-the-art approaches, is to better model the dependencies between the different sub-tasks (argument span detection, argument typing, etc.) instead of learning these tasks independently. A third research avenue is to find innovative ways to inject the domain knowledge (in particular the rich legal ontology developed by LexisNexis) to enrich enrich the representations used in these models. Finally, we would like to take advantage of other discourse structures, such as coreference and rhetorical relations, conceived as auxiliary tasks in a multi-tasking architecture. The successful candidate holds a Master's degree in computational linguistics, natural language processing, machine learning, ideally with prior experience in legal document processing and discourse processing. Furthermore, the candidate will provide strong programming skills, expertise in machine learning approaches and is eager to work at the interplay between academia and industry. The position is affiliated with the MAGNET [1], a research group at Inria, Lille, which has expertise in Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing, in particular Discourse Processing. PhD in ML/NLP – Efficient, Fair, robust and knowledge informed self-supervised learning for speech processing Starting date: November 1st, 2022 (flexible) Application deadline: September 5th, 2022 Interviews (tentative): September 19th, 2022 Salary: ~2000€ gross/month (social security included) Mission: research oriented (teaching possible but not mandatory) *Keywords:*speech processing, natural language processing, self-supervised learning, knowledge informed learning, Robustness, fairness *CONTEXT* The ANR project E-SSL (Efficient Self-Supervised Learning for Inclusive and Innovative Speech Technologies) will start on November 1st 2022. Self-supervised learning (SSL) has recently emerged as one of the most promising artificial intelligence (AI) methods as it becomes now feasible to take advantage of the colossal amounts of existing unlabeled data to significantly improve the performances of various speech processing tasks. *PROJECT OBJECTIVES* Recent SSL models for speech such as HuBERT or wav2vec 2.0 have shown an impressive impact on downstream tasks performance. This is mainly due to their ability to benefit from a large amount of data at the cost of a tremendous carbon footprint rather than improving the efficiency of the learning. Another question related to SSL models is their unpredictable results once applied to realistic scenarios which exhibit their lack of robustness. Furthermore, as for any pre-trained models applied in society, it isimportant to be able to measure the bias of such models since they can augment social unfairness. The goals of this PhD position are threefold: - to design new evaluation metrics for SSL of speech models ; - to develop knowledge-driven SSL algorithms ; - to propose methods for learning robust and unbiased representations. SSL models are evaluated with downstream task-dependent metrics e.g., word error rate for speech recognition. This couple the evaluation of the universality of SSL representations to a potentially biased and costly fine-tuning that also hides the efficiencyinformation related to the pre-training cost. In practice, we will seek to measure the training efficiency as the ratio between the amount of data, computation and memory needed to observe a certain gain in terms of performance on a metric of interest i.e.,downstream dependent or not. The first step will be to document standard markers that can be used as robust measurements to assess these values robustly at training time. Potential candidates are, for instance, floating point operations for computational intensity, number of neural parameters coupled with precision for storage, online measurement of memory consumption for training and cumulative input sequence length for data. Most state-of-the-art SSL models for speech rely onmasked prediction e.g. HuBERT and WavLM, or contrastive losses e.g. wav2vec 2.0. Such prevalence in the literature is mostly linked to the size, amount of data and computational resources injected by thecompany producing these models. In fact, vanilla masking approaches and contrastive losses may be identified as uninformed solutions as they do not benefit from in-domain expertise. For instance, it has been demonstrated that blindly masking frames in theinput signal i.e. HuBERT and WavLM results in much worse downstream performance than applying unsupervised phonetic boundaries [Yue2021] to generate informed masks. Recently some studies have demonstrated the superiority of an informed multitask learning strategy carefully selecting self-supervised pretext-tasks with respect to a set of downstream tasks, over the vanilla wav2vec 2.0 contrastive learning loss [Zaiem2022]. In this PhD project, our objective is: 1. continue to develop knowledge-driven SSL algorithms reaching higher efficiency ratios and results at the convergence, data consumption and downstream performance levels; and 2. scale these novel approaches to a point enabling the comparison with current state-of-the-art systems and therefore motivating a paradigm change in SSL for the wider speech community. Despite remarkable performance on academic benchmarks, SSL powered technologies e.g. speech and speaker recognition, speech synthesis and many others may exhibit highly unpredictable results once applied to realistic scenarios. This can translate into a global accuracy drop due to a lack of robustness to adversarial acoustic conditions, or biased and discriminatory behaviors with respect to different pools of end users. Documenting and facilitating the control of such aspects prior to the deployment of SSL models into the real-life is necessary for the industrial market. To evaluate such aspects, within the project, we will create novel robustness regularization and debasing techniques along two axes: 1. debasing and regularizing speech representations at the SSL level; 2. debasing and regularizing downstream-adapted models (e.g. using a pre-trained model). To ensure the creation of fair and robust SSL pre-trained models, we propose to act both at the optimization and data levels following some of our previous work on adversarial protected attribute disentanglement and the NLP literature on data sampling and augmentation [Noé2021]. Here, we wish to extend this technique to more complex SSL architectures and more realistic conditions by increasing the disentanglement complexity i.e. the sex attribute studied in [Noé2021] is particularly discriminatory. Then, and to benefit from the expert knowledge induced by the scope of the task of interest, we will build on a recent introduction of task-dependent counterfactual equal odds criteria [Sari2021] to minimize the downstream performance gap observed in between different individuals of certain protected attributes and to maximize the overall accuracy. Following this multi-objective optimization scheme, we will then inject further identified constraints as inspired by previous NLP work [Zhao2017]. Intuitively, constraints are injected so the predictions are calibrated towards a desired distribution i.e. unbiased. *SKILLS* * Master 2 in Natural Language Processing, Speech Processing, computer science or data science. * Good mastering of Python programming and deep learning framework. * Previous in Self-Supervised Learning, acoustic modeling or ASR would be a plus * Very good communication skills in English * Good command of French would be a plus but is not mandatory *SCIENTIFIC ENVIRONMENT* The thesis will be conducted within the Getalp teams of the LIG laboratory (_https://lig-getalp.imag.fr/_ <https://lig-getalp.imag.fr/>) and the LIA laboratory (https://lia.univ-avignon.fr/). == 11th NLP4CALL, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium== The workshop series on Natural Language Processing (NLP) for Computer-Assisted Language Learning (NLP4CALL) is a meeting place for researchers working on the integration of Natural Language Processing and Speech Technologies in CALL systems and exploring the theoretical and methodological issues arising in this connection. The latter includes, among others, insights from Second Language Acquisition (SLA) research, on the one hand, and promote development of "Computational SLA" through setting up Second Language research infrastructure(s), on the other. The intersection of Natural Language Processing (or Language Technology / Computational Linguistics) and Speech Technology with Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) brings "understanding" of language to CALL tools, thus making CALL intelligent. This fact has given the name for this area of research – Intelligent CALL, ICALL. As the definition suggests, apart from having excellent knowledge of Natural Language Processing and/or Speech Technology, ICALL researchers need good insights into second language acquisition theories and practices, as well as knowledge of second language pedagogy and didactics. This workshop invites therefore a wide range of ICALL-relevant research, including studies where NLP-enriched tools are used for testing SLA and pedagogical theories, and vice versa, where SLA theories, pedagogical practices or empirical data are modeled in ICALL tools. The NLP4CALL workshop series is aimed at bringing together competences from these areas for sharing experiences and brainstorming around the future of the field. We welcome papers: - that describe research directly aimed at ICALL; - that demonstrate actual or discuss the potential use of existing Language and Speech Technologies or resources for language learning; - that describe the ongoing development of resources and tools with potential usage in ICALL, either directly in interactive applications, or indirectly in materials, application or curriculum development, e.g. learning material generation, assessment of learner texts and responses, individualized learning solutions, provision of feedback; - that discuss challenges and/or research agenda for ICALL - that describe empirical studies on language learner data. We invite researchers working in biomedical informatics, knowledge representation/ontologies, information retrieval, natural language processing, artificial intelligence/machine learning, data mining, and other related areas to submit clear and detailed descriptions of their novel methodological results. Our data now includes over 1,267,000 tokens of searchable, linguistically analyzed Coptic data from dozens of ancient Coptic works (an increase of almost 100,000 tokens from the previous release). Annotations include POS tagging, lemmatization, morphological analysis, dependency parses, nested NNER, entity linking and more. You’ll receive an email with the ZOOM link and code. Abstract In this talk I will explore the relationship between learner corpus and second language acquisition research. I begin by considering the origins of learner corpus research, noting its roots in smaller scale studies of learner language. This development of learner corpus studies will be considered in the broader context of the development of corpus linguistics. I then consider the aspirations that learner corpus researchers have had to engage with second language acquisition research and explore why, to date, the interaction between the two fields has been minimal. By exploring some of the corpus building practices of learner corpus research, and the theoretical goals of second language acquisition studies, I will identify reasons for this lack of interaction and make proposals for how this situation could be fruitfully addressed. Tony McEnery is distinguished professor of Linguistics and English Langauge in the Department of English Language and Linguistics at Lancaster University and Changjiang Chair at Xi’an Jiaotong University in China. The group is a part of the project Reflecting Intelligent Systems for Diversity, Demography, and Democracy (IRIS3D) [2] funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of the State of Baden-Württemberg [3]. It is located at the Institute for Natural Language Processing (IMS) [4] at the University of Stuttgart, Germany [5]. *Project* The immense influence of NLP systems on human lives raises increasing concerns about the possible harm these tools can cause. Harmful behaviors of such systems are regarded as symptoms of their bias, i.e., the systematic preference or discrimination against certain groups of users. NLP tools are commonly trained on textual corpora that display such biases already at the level of their authors. For example, Wikipedia, which is one of the most commonly used sources of training data, is created by a predominantly white and male group of editors. Such a lack of diversity among authors can lessen the impact of data from minorities and, as a consequence, result in NLP models that reflect the underlying demographic imbalances. DANIS contributes to the discourse of fairness in AI by facilitating the design of NLP intelligent systems that can recognize inputs from underrepresented groups of users and strengthen their role in the training processes. *Position* The successful candidate will work on topics ranging from (i) recognition of textual phenomena that identify distinctive demographic groups, (ii) analysis techniques to investigate the influence of particular training signals on neural NLP models, and (iii) incorporating the knowledge of biases into a standard NLP methodology. The position is available for four years, starting in December 2022 or soon thereafter. The salary is according to the German university pay scale (TV-L 13 100%, approx. 50k EUR per year before taxes, see [6] for details). The PhD candidate will benefit from the support structures offered by the Graduate Academy of the University of Stuttgart (GRADUS) [7] and IRIS [8]. Two research positions in University of Edinburgh MT group

Hi We are looking for two researchers (at post-doc or pre-doc level) to work with us in Edinburgh on two new Horizon Europe projects. Both projects start in Autumn 2022 and run for 3 years. The first project (High Performance Language Technologies -- HPLT) will create an open platform that trains reproducible high-quality machine translation systems and language models. The project is gathering over a million GPU hours and 7 petabytes of data. Research in HPLT focuses on efficiency and models that apply to a wide range of languages. The second project (UTTER -- Unified Transcription and Translation for Extended Reality) aims to use large language models to develop scalable, adaptable, contextualised, emotion-aware and explainable technologies for translation, summarisation and transcription. The project will develop prototypes for a multilingual meeting assistant and for dialogue translation in customer care. The new researchers will work on problems related to these goals. This section will appear at the end of the paper, after the discussion/conclusions section and before the references, and will not count towards the page limit. Papers without a limitation section will be automatically rejected without review. ARR-reviewed papers that did not include “Limitations” section in their prior submission, should submit a PDF with such a section together when they commit their papers to EACL 2023 via Softconf. While we are open to different types of limitations, just mentioning that a set of results have been shown for English only probably does not reflect what we expect. Mentioning that the method works mostly for languages with limited morphology, like English, is a much better alternative. In addition, limitations such as low scalability to long text, the requirement of large GPU resources, or other things that inspire crucial further investigation are welcome. *Ethics Policy*Authors are required to honor the ethical code set out in the ACL Code of Ethics. The consideration of the ethical impact of our research, use of data, and potential applications of our work has always been an important consideration, and as artificial intelligence is becoming more mainstream, these issues are increasingly pertinent. We ask that all authors read the code, and ensure that their work is conformant to this code. Where a paper may raise ethical issues, we ask that you include in the paper an explicit discussion of these issues, which will be taken into account in the review process. We reserve the right to reject papers on ethical grounds, where the authors are judged to have operated counter to the code of ethics, or have inadequately addressed legitimate ethical concerns with their work. Authors will be allowed extra space after the 8th page (4th for short papers) for an optional broader impact statement or other discussion of ethics. The EACL review form will include a section addressing these issues and papers flagged for ethical concerns by reviewers or ACs will be further reviewed by an ethics committee. Note that an ethical considerations section is not required, but papers working with sensitive data or on sensitive tasks that do not discuss these issues will not be accepted. Conversely, the mere inclusion of an ethical considerations section does not guarantee acceptance. In addition to acceptance or rejection, papers may receive a conditional acceptance recommendation. Dear Community NLP community usually quantifies the 'resourcefulness' of a language based on the datasets (annotated/unannotated) available in public repositories. However, our recent analysis on the LREC 2022 papers revealed that most of the datasets have not been published in these public repositories. The final workshop will be held on **September 7th-8th in Parma, Italy**. As in the previous editions (https://www.evalita.it/ <https://www.evalita.it/>), EVALITA 2023 will be organized along a few selected tasks, which provide participants with opportunities to discuss and explore both emerging and traditional areas of Natural Language Processing and Speech for Italian. The participation is encouraged for teams working both in academic institutions and industrial organizations. TASK PROPOSAL SUBMISSION Tasks proposals should be no longer than 4 pages and should include: - task title and acronym; - names and affiliation of the organizers (minimum 2 organizers); - brief task description, including motivations and state of the art; - explanation of the international relevance of the task; - description and examples of the data, including information about their availability, development stage, and issues concerning privacy and data sensitivity. The abstract submissions are now open. *Call for Papers: MMSYM 2023* *1st International Multimodal Communication Symposium, April 27-28 2023, Barcelona* The *1st International Multimodal Communication Symposium (**MMSYM 2023)* will be held from Thursday 27th to Friday 28th April 2023 at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Catalonia. *MMSYM 2023* follows up on a tradition established by the Swedish Symposia on Multimodal Communication held from 1997 until 2000, and continued by the Nordic Symposia on Multimodal Communication held from 2003 to 2012. Since 2013, the symposium has acquired a broader European dimension, with editions held in Malta (2013), Tartu (2014), Dublin (2015), Copenhagen (2016), Bielefeld (2017), and Leuven (2019). To acknowledge its international ambition, this year, the symposium in Barcelona has updated its name to *1st International Multimodal Communication Symposium*. The symposium is locally organized at Universitat Pompeu Fabra with the support of the research groups collaborating within the GEHM network (GEstures and Head Movements in Language, https://cst.ku.dk/english/projects/gestures-and-head-movements-in-language-…), whose goal is to foster research into the way hand gestures and head movements interact with speech in face-to-face and human-computer multimodal communication. We welcome works aimed at exploring different approaches to multimodal communication, including research on multimodality in human communication and/or in human-computer interaction. In addition, this year’s symposium has a particular interest in three main research themes: 1) the language-specific characteristics of gesture-speech interaction 2) multimodal prominence 3) the conceptual and statistical modelling of multimodal contributions, with particular regard to head movements and the use of gaze. We are glad to invite you to participate in the SemEval-2023 Shared Task 3 on detecting the genre, the framing, and the persuasion techniques in online news. The main drive behind this task is to foster development of methods and tools to support the analysis of online media content in order to understand what makes a text persuasive: which writing style is used, what key aspects are highlighted, and which persuasion techniques are used to influence the reader. The data used for for this task is made of articles collected from 2020 to mid 2022, they revolve around a range of widely discussed topics such as COVID-19, climate change, abortion, migration, the Russo-Ukrainian war, and local elections. The data presents several novelties: it is multilabel, multilingual, uses an updated taxonomy of persuassion techniques and covers complementary dimensions of what makes a text persuasive. The overall aim of this project is to develop methods for learning graph-structured representations of stories. For this post, the specific focus will be on developing common sense reasoning strategies, based on graph neural networks, to fill the gap between what is explicitly stated in a story and what a human reader would infer by “reading between the lines”. Such mental models are crucial for reading comprehension. They allow us to relate the story to our earlier experiences, to make inferences that require combining information from different sentences, and to interpret ambiguous sentences correctly. Crucially, mental models capture more information than what is literally mentioned in the story. They are representations of the situations that are described, rather than the text itself, and they are constructed by combining the story text with our commonsense understanding of how the world works. The field of Natural Language Processing (NLP) has made rapid progress in the last few years, but the focus has largely been on sentence-level representations. Stories, such as news articles, social media posts or medical case reports, are essentially modelled as collections of sentences. As a result, current systems struggle with the ambiguity of language, since the correct interpretation of a word or sentence can often only be inferred by taking its broader story context into account. They are also severely limited in their ability to solve problems where information from different sentences needs to be combined. As a final example, current systems struggle to identify correspondences between related stories (e.g. different news articles about the same event), especially if they are written from a different perspective. To address these fundamental challenges, we need a method to learn story-level representations that can act as an analogue to mental models. Intuitively, there are two steps involved in learning such story representations: first we need to model what is literally mentioned in the story, and then we need some form of commonsense reasoning to fill in the gaps. In practice, however, these two steps are closely interrelated: interpreting what is mentioned in the story requires a model of the story context, but constructing this model requires an interpretation of what is mentioned. The solution that is proposed in this fellowship is based on representations called story graphs. These story graphs encode the events that occur, the entities involved, and the relationships that hold between these entities and events. A story can then be viewed as an incomplete specification of a story graph, similar to how a symbolic knowledge base corresponds to an incomplete specification of a possible world. The proposed framework will allow us to reason about textual information in a principled way. It will lead to significant improvements in NLP tasks where a commonsense understanding is required of the situations that are described, or where information from multiple sentences or documents needs to be combined. It will furthermore enable a step change in applications that directly rely on structured text representations, such as situational understanding, information retrieval systems for the legal, medical and news domains, and tools for inferring business insights from news stories and social media feeds.

EVALITA 2023: Call for tasks - NEW DEADLINES and TIMELINE EVALITA 2023 is an initiative of AILC (Associazione Italiana di Linguistica Computazionale, AILC https://www.ai-lc.it/). The final workshop will be held on **September 7th-8th in Parma**. As in the previous editions (https://www.evalita.it/), EVALITA 2023 will be organized along a few selected tasks, which provide participants with opportunities to discuss and explore both emerging and traditional areas of Natural Language Processing and Speech for Italian. The participation is encouraged for teams working both in academic institutions and industrial organizations. TASK PROPOSAL SUBMISSION Tasks proposals should be no longer than 4 pages and should include: - task title and acronym; - names and affiliation of the organizers (minimum 2 organizers); - brief task description, including motivations and state of the art; - explanation of the international relevance of the task; - description and examples of the data, including information about their availability, development stage, and issues concerning privacy and data sensitivity. The examples are mandatory because they are intended to give potential participants an idea of what the task data will look like, how it’ll be formatted, etc. - expected number of participants and attendees; - names and contact information of the organizers. In submitting your proposal, please bear in mind that we encourage: - challenging tasks involving linguistic analysis, e.g., beyond “simple” classification problems; - tasks focused on multimodality, e.g., considering both textual and visual information; - tasks characterized by different levels of complexity, e.g., with a straightforward main subtask and one or more sophisticated additional subtasks; - the re-annotation/expansion of datasets from previous years with new annotation levels, and texts from publicly available corpora; - both new tasks and re-runs: for new tasks, organizers will have to specify in the proposal why it would attract a reasonable number of participants, and why it is needed; - application-oriented tasks, that is tasks that have a clearly defined end-user application showcasing; - multilingual tasks, i.e. with data both in Italian and in other languages; - industrial tasks, i.e. tasks with real data provided by companies. Second call for the 2022 ALTA shared task

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION http://www.alta.asn.au/events/sharedtask2022 The Australasian Language Technology Association (ALTA) is organising a programming competition for university undergraduate and postgraduate students. Following on the series of shared tasks by ALTA since 2010, all participants compete to solve the same problem. The problem highlights an active area of research and programming in the area of language technology. This year's shared task is a re-visit of the 2012 task: PIBOSO Sentence Classification - 10 years later. The goal of this task is to build automatic sentence classifiers that can map the content of biomedical abstracts into a set of pre-defined categories, which are used for Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM). EBM practitioners rely on specific criteria when judging whether a scientific article is relevant to a given question. They generally follow the PICO criterion: Population (P) (i.e., participants in a study); Intervention (I); Comparison (C) (if appropriate); and Outcome (O) (of an Intervention). Variations and extensions of this classification have been proposed, and for this task we will extend PICO by adding the classes Background (B) and Study Design (S); and including sentences that have no relevant content: Other (O). Therefore, the goal will be to classify the provided sentences according to the PIBOSO schema. Such information could be leveraged in various ways: e.g., to improve search performance; to enable structured querying with specific categories; and to aid users in more quickly making judgements against specified PICOSO criteria. Over the last few decades, there have been many developments in these areas, largely driven by technological innovations, for example: the ubiquity of digital recording devices for the easy capture of speech; the wide availability of video and audio data, from a variety of discourse contexts; advancements in automated transcription; developments in the exploitation of multimodal corpora; and advancements in the functionality of popular corpus tools to process highly-annotated corpora. This special issue of RiCL intends to capture recent innovations in the compilation and analysis of spoken corpora - both monomodal and multimodal - and highlight the current challenges and future opportunities in this area of study. Dear colleagues, we are seeking contributions (abstracts, max. 500 words) to a panel on “Robust and flexible interactive language technology for human empowerment” at the International Pragmatics Conference (IPrA), July 9–14, 2023 in Brussels, Belgium. IPrA participants generally share interest in how language is used and are highly diverse in their methods of investigation, their disciplinary backgrounds, and interest in fundamental or applied research. Beyond flashy PR and AI hype, interacting language technology has the potential to change many people’s lives, as it makes available new interactional resources and communicative modalities.
